NOW, IT'S THE LEFT'S TURN TO BASH
THE MEDIA. WHY? TOO SOFT ON TRUMP!
“So profound,” Cat answered with his familiar sneer. “Cats have known this about all Humans for centuries, but it’s rarely discussed among us, because it’s so obvious. We accommodate their failings because it beats rounding a bird every morning for breakfast."
“I’m no longer sure it was a good idea that my ancestors, the wolves, decided to come in from the cold and find common ground with Humans and their fireplaces,” I agreed.
“What brings on such a sour observation from a ‘Sweet Dog,’” Cat said, again mocking me.
“I was reading that some Lefties are mad at the media,” I said.
“Really?” Cat said, with genuine astonishment. “I thought the media (except our Fox cousins) is/are widely considered to be dominated by Left-Leaners – not that reporters don’t try – and even succeed – at being ‘objective,’ but they start from a Left World point of view.”
“I was reading something in Politico this morning with this headline:"
DEMOCRATS’ FRUSTRATION WITH THE NEWS MEDIA BOILS OVER.
“Can I interrupt here?” Cat asked. “Aren’t there more important things to worry about than someone griping about the media? How about people being massacred in El Paso and Dayton? How about the guns, Phoebe? How about no one needing AK-47’s meant to slaughter score of Humans (and their pets) in seconds?”
“True,” I said. “But I was just flabbergasted by the idea that the Lefties are ticked off at the press. It’s like being mad at firefighters saving your burning house; the Coast Guard rescuing you when your kayak swamped; farmers when you’re craving lunch. I mean, the ‘media’ are/is the single most effective force in the country holding Trump to account. It’s bad enough having the Republican zombies going after the media; but the Left?” |
“One thing that got them going was a headline in the New York Times on Aug. 6, about Teleprompter Trump’s fake speech after the shootings," I said:
TRUMP URGES UNITY VS. RACISM
“That’s what White (House) Man actually said,” Cat noted. “Aren’t newspapers supposed to report what presidents say?”
“People maintained it wasn’t critical enough, and made it seem like they were treating Trump as a normal president, instead of a racist hypocrite psychopath,” I said. “Politico says that Beto O’Rourke called the headline ‘unbelievable.’ And other Democrats, who also are running for president, piled on.
“In fact, even the Times’ top editor, Dean Baquet, didn’t like what he called a ‘bad headline,’ and ordered it changed in a later edition to:
ASSAILING HATE, BUT NOT GUNS
“It is more argumentative,” Cat observed. “But is that what ‘objective' papers are supposed to do, write skeptical headlines and stories, instead of at least trying to be fair in hard-news stories and leaving it to editorial writers and columnists to critique The Creep?”
“It gets worse,” I said. “When O’Rourke was asked by a reporter whether there was anything Trump could do about the massacres, he replied that Trump has ‘been calling Mexican immigrants rapists and criminals. Members of the press, what the fuck?’ “
“Elegantly put by Beto,” Cat said. “Isn’t he the former Congressman who thinks he's qualified to be president because he wasn't able to oust Sen. Ted (Crazy Ted) Cruz last year?”
“And here’s the really stupid part,” I continued. “Politico says a hashtag #CancelNYT is making the rounds, and one bright bulb, Adam Jentleson, an ex-aide to ex-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, said he was dropping his Times subscription because the paper “doesn’t accurately report the news.”
Cat was stupefied.
I explained that the Left is accusing the media of going easy on Trump, pretending to be objective, while airbrushing The Greatest Comb-Over's racism.
Cat and I agreed that we should send the Left the usual commandment about avoiding the blame-the-messenger thing. And to remind everyone, Left and Right, how hard the major media folks have been working to do their traditional job in the face of a non-normal president who is a liar, a racist and a relentless phony.
The Washington Post, for example, keeps a running total on the Still-A-Child’s lies. The "Fact Checker" on Aug. 2, noted a landmark achieved:
PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS MADE |
And look what kinds of stories the Times is doing, again unprecedented.
When Trump went on his racist tirade against the four black Congresswomen known as the “Squad,” Peter Baker, the paper's White House chief correspondent, wrote this:
President Trump woke up on Sunday morning, gazed out at the nation he leads, saw the dry kindling of race relations and decided to throw a match on it. It was not the first time, nor is it likely to be the last. He has a pretty large carton of matches and a ready supply of kerosene. |
Let’s get the obvious stuff out of the way. Yes, Donald Trump is a vile racist. He regularly uses dehumanizing language about nonwhites, including members of Congress. And while some argue that this is a cynical strategy designed to turn out Trump’s base, it is at most a strategy that builds on Trump’s pre-existing bigotry. He would be saying these things regardless (and was saying such things long before he ran for president); his team is simply trying to turn bigoted lemons into political lemonade. |
We ask you: how can Humans - even the supposedly Good-Guy/Gal Progressives, who we assume have the answers to all of the world’s problems, who we’re relying on to save the country and the world, be so stupid and so shoot-yourself-in-the-foot self-defeating?
“And what's more, why do they get mad when we bark at the mail-persons?” I added.
“Or throw up on the couch?” Cat said
“Truly, somebody has to save us from Donald Trump,” I said.
“But first,” Cat said, “somebody has to save us from the All-Too-Human Left.”
